The celebrations started as early as 1 Aug as Kayden & Papa took part in the neighbourhood's parade and celebration. The duo even did a "walk-past" in national colours in full view of the spectators and the guest of honour - Mr Goh Chok Tong (Senior Minister).

We have never been to the Istana and since it was opened to the public on 2 August, we decided to join the crowd on that day. We reached the main gate just slightly pass 9am and thought we were early but the snaking queue proved us wrong. This place is one big park and the sloping grounds really tire us out. The old bones certainly need some exercise but it was made worse as the young one wanted to be carried.

In the week and a half leading to 7 August, we were full of anticipation as we received Kayden's school invite for a National Day pinic at Katong Park. The picnic was secondary as it was the "performance" by the kids that interests us. We were entertained by the little young performers and mummy had a little workout participating in the games while papa was busy shooting away.

This long weekend was truly enjoyable as we did not feel the usual weekend rush and was able to go for a swim, cycle at East Coast Park, feast on unhealthy BBQ takeaway and do some shopping too. Nice!
