We summoned the kid over and showed him the worksheet and guess what, he could pronounce the 4 syllabus word loud and clear and even provided us with the definition!!! We just went "WOW", probe him further and he impressed us further by differentiating between "vertebrates" and "invertebrates". He told us he is a "vertebrate" as he has got bones. Simply AMAZING! This sounded so different from his usual - what I ate in school today, what and who I played with, who pushed whom and who cried, etc.
We have to make a mental note to commend the teachers and school for their efforts when we see them in June for the parents-teachers meet up. Kayden seems to be enjoying himself in school and is learning well as his drawings made more sense now and he has also started writing some alphas, numbers and spell his own name. He is not having any enrichment classes as his hours in school are long enough hence weekends are pure fun. Lazy r us have hardly spent time practicing writing and reading with him and besides, he seems uninterested in these activities and we do not want to force them on him. We are not the pros in this area but we reckon that learning through play is not a bad idea at this tender age as being HAPPY should be the key objective.
