The Belated CNY Post - Monkey Year

We have been documenting the annual CNY celebrations since the blogging started and this must continue as we are a traditional chinese family that values the lunar new year as the most important festival and one in which we celebrate with both our immediate and extended families and friends in a big way. The year of the monkey is no exception too but we are just quite busy with the daily going-ons to blog about it.

The preparations always begin in the weeks leading to new year's eve and this year, mummy and papa made a trip to the food wholesalers at Woodlands to stock up on CNY goodies and gifts for the family, in addition to the supermarket and wet market trips.

In the apparel department, efforts were intensified to source for the boys' clothes as the choices are limited in the brick and mortar shops. At the end of the day, mummy found all our clothes at Gingersnaps, including one too many for Reanne.

As the first day of CNY fell on a monday, we had our first reunion steamboat dinner on saturday at BW with 二姑姑‘s family for the first time and had our second reunion dinner at porpor's place on eve. The subsequent round of steamboat during 人日was held at our place when 舅舅and porpor came over. We are fans of our home-made 加料鱼生 where additional doses of carrots, cucumber, radish, pomelo, apple, pear and dragon are added for that extra crunchiness and zest! We have been making our own for years but have not really documented this CNY special dish which we would replicate a few times during the 15 days festive period.
This one features abalone as the highlight.

Yes, the family photos taken with the DSLR have not been downloaded as of today ;p We love how efficient and nifty our handphones can  be when it comes to picture-taking!
