To To-ko-yo!

Tokyo (30 Sept - 7 Oct 2009)

This was the beginning of fall and rainy days were expected. There were only 2 days of good weather during this trip but the efforts spent by papa in tracking it paid off.

On 1 Oct, we booked ourselves on a Mt Fuji/Hakone day tour with Gray Line at 11,000 Yen per person (FOC for Kayden). Even the guide told our group we were lucky as the skies were clear and we were blessed with a panoramic view of Mt Fuji. Papa and mummy had made an earlier attempt during Spring 2004 for this same tour but due to the heavy snowfall, we only went up to the first station.
After taking in the fresh air and working the cameras, we took the coach and head down to Hakone for lunch, followed by the cable car to Owagudani - where the orginal black eggs (kurotamago) are found. The place kind of stinks due to the smell of sulphur and it was chilly too. Although we left our jackets behind in the coach, we still made the decision to climbed up the hill to the hut where the black eggs were made and sold at a price of 500 yen for 5! It is believed that each one taken will prolong your lifespan by a good 7 years. We wanted to share the pack of 5 with another fellow tourist but he gave us 2 instead to share the good fortune and since we only had room (stomach) for 1 amongst the 3 of us, we gave the other to another fellow tourist too.
We hang around Tokyo for the next 3 days and visited Odaiba Bay, Asakusa, Ueno's Ameya-yoko, Ikebukuro, Harajuku and the most frequented - Ginza as we were staying in the area. And at the end of our stay at Courtyard, Kayden made friends with a young and pretty bell hop - Megumi (ps: She wrote you your very first friendship note!)
The 2 days spent at Disneysea and Disneyland were a bit disappointing as some parades were cancelled due to bad weather and this included the night parade at Disneyland. We had a great workout juggling umbrellas, raincoats, knapsack and stroller during these 2 days. And on our last night, we decided to make an early exit from the Magical Land, ordered room service and enjoyed the fireworks at the parks from the hotel balcony.
