| Warming up... |
Although TKD is not a CCA for the school, the sport has gained popularity and a team of 10 was formed to take part in this year's competition. K was the youngest representative amongst them and for his junior division (P1- P5) red belt category, he was up against 50 other opponents. We knew that it would be very competitive, especially when he is up against older boys but we have been encouraging him to try his best. The team has practised hard with the additional 4 hours of training on a weekly basis during the last month.
K did well enough during the qualifying round and moved on to the semi-finals but was not the top-8. In fact, he finished 10th amongst the 26 or so who were in semi-finals. He was more disappointed than we thought and was so sad that he teared on the way home and was brooding over it in the days after as he felt that he has practised so hard but ended up with nothing. This was certainly good experience for him as the previous competitions were smaller in scale. Although he is still disappointed, he knows that this is not the end and he would work even harder when the nationals are up in June to score a medal!
The team did really well in the team event (Silver) and individual sparring (Gold) and they were all dressed in their dobok on Friday during morning assembly for medal presentation and photo-taking.
