The Jubilee Weekend

We love Singapore for all its beauty and flaws and are proud to be Singaporeans. Besides ourselves, our extended family members were feeling just as nationalistic and joyful during that fabulous long weekend and it was especially meaningful when we celebrate the event together.

Amongst the many special promotions and offers all around us, we decided to go for the Gardens by the Bay as porpor has yet to visit the beautiful gardens and we thought it was time for a revisit, especially when there was a great variety of orchids gathered together for the Singapore Stories Display. We received our 50% discount on entrance tickets whereas porpor entered free as part of their "Free Entry for Seniors" offer!

The crowd was already forming at 9am but was still manageable and we spent a good 2.5 hours covering both Domes before making a rushed exit to catch the Black Knights (BK) aerial display at 1215pm. Unfortunately, dark clouds gathered and it started to rain. We caught parts of the display while huddling under shelter. The special floral display was beautiful and impressive but it was really crowded.

For day 2 of the weekend, we decided to check out our favourite mall nearby for the various special SG50 promotions and were pleasantly surprised when there was no crowd. Later in the afternoon, we ventured out to take the circle line to Dhoby Ghaut station while Kayden dedicated his rendition of Home, our all-time favourite national day song, to commemorate Singapore's 50th birthday!

All of us gathered at Ah gong's place on day 3 for a sumptuous and heart-warming homemade Ong-family popiah and kueh pie-tee party for 17 of us!

On 9th August 2015, all of us gathered in front of the television at 9am to watch the late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew's rendition of the Declaration of Independence when the siren sounded island-wide.

Like we said, mummy and papa would most probably not be around when Singapore turns 100 in 50 years time, but the 3 of you will. You guys must remember the great times that we have spent together and we trust that you will also be doing so with your families at home, where your hearts belong.
