Reanne goes to school

Plans were made to put Reanne in childcare this year so that it would be manageable at home as the big brothers would be home in the afternoon. At 2 years of age, we thought it would do her good to mingle with toddlers of her age and to start her on the school routine as frankly speaking, it was challenging for the helper to keep her occupied at home and much time was spent on Youtube videos and cartoons.

And so it all started on 1 Feb 2017 when we packed her diapers, milk, clothes and took a short walk to the school. We knew she would cry buckets and she did for almost 2 hours when mummy left her side. She started out by spending only half a day in school for the first 3 days. It took her 2 days to understand the morning preparation routine for school and the separation anxiety has since started at  home as she will whine and cry as we prepare to leave the house. The crying will escalate when we approach the gate and the drama reaches its peak when we are in class.

Instead of her precious bear, her security blanket has been the little unicorn bag and she would insist on carrying the bag or keeping it by her side. Although it has been 3 weeks (missed school for 3 days as she was sick), her teachers would still have to coax her to out her bag down. The morning crying on the way to school continues but she will usually stop within 5 minutes after we leave. However, the crying starts again when she sees her friends being picked up by their parents/guardians in the later afternoons.

Her chinese teacher (Zhang lao shi) has labelled her as being "drama" and shared with us that while it was a challenge to divert her attention and sooth her during the first few days, she has started to enjoy class. Miss Michelle, her English teacher, has also noticed that she enjoys music and singing and would start playing songs to help Renanne settle down in the early morning.

See how she chomped and finished breakfast on Day 1:)
